Virtually every government agency has recently had a data breach. As a result, web
data brokers are now making big money off of stolen social security numbers. A stolen
social security number allows someone to identify as you for work and federal benefit
purposes, not to mention obtain medical care for themselves while sending you the bill.
You can safeguard your social security number with the federal government by “locking
it” with a self-lock feature via a government e-verify account.

2024 Holiday Scam Alerts
#1: Fake-E-Commerce sites are on the rise, both on social media and via email.
Research any new e-commerce site before you use it.
#2: Scammers send emails that appear to be from well-known retailers like Target,
Macy’s or Walmart offering a big sale. However, the link takes you to a cloned website
that gets your payment info to steal your money.
#3: Fake charitable organizations, or scammers impersonating charities, are on the rise.
Go to a charity’s known website to make a charitable contribution independent of any
email or text prompting.
#4: Scammers posing as utility company employees, IRS employees and even the
police are still scamming money from consumers by demanding payment. Any payment
where the representatives suggest using a gift card or some other unusual payment
method is a definite red flag.
#5: Scammers are now sending emails advertising a travel deal from a well-known
travel company, but the link takes you to a cloned website to steal your money. Go to
the actual travel company website independent of any email link.
