Investment Scam:
Deepfake videos produced by AI show videos of celebrities or financial gurus endorsing an investment such as digital currency. The videos are entirely fake, and the investment likely does not exist—or won’t exist for very long.
Romance Scams: Social media-based romance scams are still trending upward. Romantic or sexy talk soon turns to some type of financial need. If you are lonely, and “meet” someone on social media or a dating app, meet in a safe area and don’t give them money.
Our Kids Are Being Targeted: Our kiddos are being catfished on social media by someone pretending to be their age. The talk soon turns to sex and the catfish convinces your kiddos to send them a selfie nude. The picture is then used to blackmail your child for cash or even worse things. Tell your kiddos about this scam and tell them if anything happens to come to you immediately. There are steps you can take to get those pictures off the web.
Medical Insurance Scams: A scammer pretending to be from Medicare or the Health Insurance Marketplace requests that you provide them with personal information for payment or qualification for an insurance program or discount. Making this even more complicated, sometimes insurers actually call you for information. Verify any payment or informational issues directly with the original source (your insurance company).
